Getting Around Walt Disney World: A Complete Guide to Disney World Transportation
Walt Disney World offers an impressive and varied transportation system designed to help guests get from one magical place to another with ease. Whether you’re heading to a theme park, resort, or dining reservation, you’ll find options ranging from scenic boat rides to iconic Monorail journeys. Here’s your guide to navigating it all.
Disney Bus Transportation
Disney’s complimentary bus service is the most widely used form of transportation across the resort. Buses run from all Disney-owned resorts to the four theme parks, two water parks, and Disney Springs. The fleet is air-conditioned and wheelchair-accessible, and buses arrive at most stops every 15–20 minutes. Resorts with large layouts often have multiple internal bus stops.
Key Information:
Start Time: Buses begin running about 45 minutes before park opening
End Time: Continue up to an hour after park closing
Park Hopper Buses: Starts at 10 am
Real-Time Tracking: Use the My Disney Experience app for bus arrival times
Resorts with Multiple Inner Resort Bus Stops:
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
Disney’s Old Key West Resort
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
It’s helpful to know which bus stop is closest to your room so you can plan when to head out. If your resort has multiple bus stops, the My Disney Experience app will show them listed across the top of the screen when you check bus arrival times—making it easy to select the stop nearest to you.
🚌 Bus Transportation Tips
Know Your Closest Bus Stop: If your resort has multiple bus stops, check the My Disney Experience app to find the one closest to your room. Stops will appear across the top of the screen when checking bus times.
Leave Early: Buses can take 45 minutes or more depending on crowds and wait times. Leave extra time when heading to dining reservations or early morning park openings.
Use Park Hopper Buses Wisely: These run between theme parks starting at 10 a.m. if you have a Park Hopper ticket. They save time if you’re not returning to your resort between parks.
Be Patient: During peak times like rope drop or park close, expect longer wait times and crowded buses. If you have flexibility, consider leaving earlier or later than the crowd.
Disney Skyliner
The Disney Skyliner is a high-flying gondola system that debuted in 2019, offering panoramic views and a fun, breezy ride between EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and select resorts. The hub of the Skyliner is located at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, where guests can transfer to different routes.
Skyliner Route:
EPCOT (International Gateway)
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Resorts Served:
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (hub)
Disney’s Riviera Resort
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
Disney’s Pop Century Resort
Key Information:
Operating Hours: Typically 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (check MDE for updates)
Notes: Service may pause during inclement weather (especially lightning)
The Skyliner is a smooth, fun ride and a popular choice for guests staying at participating resorts. If you're feeling nervous, don't worry—there are safety measures in place in case of an emergency, and while it may feel like the gondola is coming in fast when it arrives at the station, it's completely under control. It's truly one of the most enjoyable and unique ways to travel around Disney.
🚠 Disney Skyliner Tips
Great for EPCOT and Hollywood Studios: The Skyliner connects these two parks with Pop Century, Art of Animation, Riviera, and Caribbean Beach Resorts.
Caribbean Beach Is the Hub: All Skyliner routes transfer here. If you're staying at a non-hub station, allow extra time for the transfer.
Don't Be Nervous: The gondolas slow down (but don’t stop) when entering stations—it may feel like a fast landing, but it’s smooth and controlled.
Weather Warning: Skyliner service pauses during lightning or high winds. Always have a backup plan just in case.
Disney Monorail
The Monorail is an iconic part of Walt Disney World history, operating since 1971. It features three lines and connects guests to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and several resorts. It’s both a functional transport system and a nostalgic ride.
Monorail Lines:
Resort Monorail Line: Magic Kingdom ⇄ Disney’s Contemporary Resort ⇄ Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort ⇄ Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Express Line: Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) ⇄ Magic Kingdom
EPCOT Line: TTC ⇄ EPCOT
Key Information:
Operating Hours: Starts 30 minutes before park opening and runs until 1 hour after closing
Weather Impact: May temporarily stop during severe weather conditions
Walkable Access to Monorail Resorts:
Walk to Magic Kingdom:
Contemporary Resort (10 minutes)
Grand Floridian Resort (15 minutes via lagoon path)

🚝 Monorail Tips
Magic Kingdom & EPCOT Access: The Monorail is perfect if you’re staying at Contemporary, Grand Floridian, or Polynesian Village Resort—or if you're traveling between Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.
Three Lines, Three Purposes:
Resort Line: Stops at Magic Kingdom, TTC, Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian.
Express Line: Runs directly from TTC to Magic Kingdom.
EPCOT Line: Travels between EPCOT and TTC.
Use the Walking Paths as Backup: If the Monorail is down or busy, guests at the Contemporary or Grand Floridian can walk to Magic Kingdom in about 10–15 minutes.
Minnie Van Service (via Lyft)
Minnie Vans offer private, door-to-door transportation in red polka-dotted vehicles driven by Disney Cast Members. They’re perfect for early morning reservations, time-sensitive travel, or families needing a more personalized option. You can request a Minnie Van directly through the Lyft app, and there are two types of vehicles available.
The standard Minnie Van is actually a Chevrolet Suburban that seats up to six passengers. The second row features bucket seats—my husband usually rides up front—and two car seats are available in every vehicle. These car seats can accommodate children from six weeks old through booster-seat age. Disney used to use the Graco 4Ever car seat, though some vans now feature rotating car seats, which have been incredibly convenient.
If you need an accessible Minnie Van, it’s important to request it at least one hour in advance via the Lyft app. Alternatively, you can call to reserve one, but keep in mind that these ADA-accessible vans are more expensive, with a flat rate of $75 one-way.
(And yes, I have a whole blog post on car seats in Florida—remember, children are required to be in a car seat until they’re at least seven years old!)
Key Information:
Booking: Available via the Lyft app
Operating Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.
Price: Higher than regular Lyft rides
ADA-Accessible Minnie Vans:
If you need to reserve one at a specific time you can call
Cost: $75 one-way flat rate
Includes: Priority pick-up/drop-off, ramp access, and seating for mobility devices
🚗 Minnie Van & Rideshare Tips
Use Minnie Vans for Convenience: Book through the Lyft app for Disney-owned, Cast Member-driven service with car seats included
Standard Minnie Vans: Chevrolet Suburbans that seat up to 6, with two car seats available
ADA Minnie Vans: Must be reserved in advance via Lyft; flat rate of $75 each way
Great for: Early morning dining, airport transfers, or mid-day resort hops
Walkable Resort Paths
Several Disney resorts are located within walking distance to a theme park, offering an efficient and pleasant alternative to waiting for transportation. These walking paths are beautifully landscaped and stroller-friendly.
Walkable Resort Locations:
Contemporary Resort to Magic Kingdom: ~10 - 15 -minute walk
Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom: ~15 - 20 -minute walk via new lagoon path
BoardWalk Inn to EPCOT: ~7- 13 -minute walk to International Gateway
Beach Club to EPCOT: ~5 - 10 -minute walk
Swan & Dolphin to EPCOT: ~13 - 22 -minute walk
BoardWalk/Yacht Club to Hollywood Studios: ~15–20-minute walk

Once you're on property, you really don’t need to use your own vehicle at all—everything is connected. While it can take a bit of time to get around, especially during peak hours, we love the convenience and often tap into Minnie Van service or use Lyft or Uber when we're in a hurry. Overall, we truly enjoy staying in our little bubble.
With buses, Monorails, Skyliner gondolas, boats, ferries, trams, and Minnie Vans, Walt Disney World offers a robust and efficient transportation system to suit every type of traveler.
