Walt Disney World My Disney Experience

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World? Then you're going to want to get familiar with My Disney Experience, the key tool to unlocking a magical and well-organized Disney vacation. This online platform and mobile app streamline your Disney experience, from planning your trip months in advance to making the most of every minute inside the parks. Here's everything you need to know about My Disney Experience, and how it can transform your next Walt Disney World adventure!

What is My Disney Experience?

My Disney Experience (MDE) is Disney’s official trip-planning platform and mobile app that acts as your central hub for everything related to your Disney World visit. Whether you're booking dining reservations, reserving Lightning Lane passes, mobile ordering meals, or checking wait times for your favorite rides, MDE has you covered.

The platform is available as a website and an app (available for both iOS and Android), but the app is essential for on-the-go park guests.

Key Features of My Disney Experience:

  1. Park Tickets and Passes

  2. Park Reservations with Disney Park Pass System

  3. Dining Reservations

  4. Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass

  5. Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering

  6. Maps and Wait Times

  7. PhotoPass and Memory Maker

  8. Virtual Queues and Boarding Groups

  9. Hotel Information and Check-In

Park Tickets and Passes

Once you've purchased your park tickets, you'll link them directly to your My Disney Experience account. This way, your tickets are stored digitally, and you'll never have to worry about losing physical tickets. You can also assign tickets to individual members of your party, making group travel a breeze.

If you're an Annual Passholder, MDE also stores your pass and tracks your usage, blockout dates, and renewals.

Park Reservations with Disney Park Pass System

Some Disney ticket types, such as military tickets, Cast Member tickets, and Annual Passholder tickets, still require making Park Reservations in addition to purchasing tickets. Using My Disney Experience, you can select which park you want to visit on specific days, based on availability. Keep in mind that park reservations can book up quickly during peak times, so it’s best to secure them as early as possible.

Dining Reservations

Dining is a huge part of the Disney experience! My Disney Experience allows you to make Advanced Dining Reservations (ADR) for table-service restaurants up to 60 days in advance of your trip. Some of the most popular restaurants, like Cinderella’s Royal Table or Be Our Guest. I prefer to use my desktop when book my reservations at the 60 day make, but you are able to also book them on your phone.

In the app, you can:

  • Search for restaurants based on location, cuisine, or price

  • Book, modify, or cancel dining reservations

  • Join walk-up lists for select restaurants while you're in the park

Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass

Disney's newest ride reservation system replaces the old FastPass & Genie+ system with Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass, available through the Lightning Lane service. My Disney Experience is the control center for booking Lightning Lane return times, allowing you to bypass standard ride lines for some of Disney’s top attractions.

  • Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a paid service that gives you access to book Lightning Lane for multiple attractions throughout the day.

  • Lightning Lane Single Pass allows you to purchase access to high-demand rides (e.g., Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind).

You can also use the free Disney Genie feature to create a personalized park itinerary based on your preferences, and it will recommend attractions, dining options, and more.

Mobile Food and Beverage Ordering

Forget waiting in line for food—MDE allows you to mobile order meals at quick-service restaurants throughout the parks and resorts. You can customize your meal, pay directly through the app, and pick up your order at a designated time. It’s a huge time-saver, especially during busy meal periods!

Maps and Wait Times

With the My Disney Experience app, you’ll have access to real-time interactive maps of all the parks. These maps show:

  • Current wait times for rides and attractions

  • Dining locations

  • Restrooms, shops, and PhotoPass spots

  • Character meet-and-greets

If you're park hopping or moving between resorts, the app also provides transportation options with estimated travel times.

PhotoPass and Memory Maker

My Disney Experience also houses all of your PhotoPass photos, including pictures taken by Disney photographers or on-ride photos. If you’ve purchased Memory Maker, which gives you unlimited digital downloads of all PhotoPass images, they’ll all be accessible through MDE.

You can also add fun enhancements, like special borders and Magic Shots, directly through the app.

Virtual Queues and Boarding Groups

For certain high-demand attractions, like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Disney utilizes virtual queues rather than traditional lines. To access these rides, you’ll need to join a virtual queue at select times during the day (typically 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM).

The app will guide you through the process of joining the virtual queue, and you’ll be notified when it’s your turn to ride.

If you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, My Disney Experience is an app that you should definitely consider downloading. It is the all-in-one hub for accessing all the information you need while visiting the park, and it can make your vacation experience a lot smoother. This app links all your information, such as your tickets, reservations, and Genie+ selections, to one convenient location, eliminating the need for anything else!

Hotel Information and Check-In

Staying at a Disney Resort Hotel? My Disney Experience manages your resort booking as well. You can:

  • View your reservation details

  • Check-in online before your arrival

  • Use the app as a digital room key

  • Request room preferences (subject to availability)

Guests staying at Disney resorts also benefit from Early Theme Park Entry, and this will appear in your itinerary on MDE

Customizing Your My Disney Experience

One of the best parts of My Disney Experience is the ability to customize your trip for each member of your party. Create profiles for family and friends, link their park tickets, and make dining reservations or Lightning Lane selections for the whole group. You can also share your itinerary, so everyone stays on the same page.

How to Use My Disney Experience

It’s worth noting that sometimes, even if you book through the Disney website, your reservations may not automatically link to My Disney Experience. To avoid any issues, always double-check that everything is properly connected in the app.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll see five main categories on the homepage:

  • My Tickets & Passes

  • Lightning Lane Passes

  • Reserve Dining

  • Merchandise Checkout

  • Order Food

These categories offer quick access to essential tools like attraction wait times, dining reservations, and more. Below these categories, you can update your profile, access health services, leave a Cast Member compliment, and link your party. One of the app's most helpful features is the Car Locator, which assists in finding your vehicle when parking at Walt Disney World Resort.

If you’re visiting Disneyland, there’s a separate Disneyland app that mirrors the features of My Disney Experience, making it just as valuable when planning your trip to Disneyland Resort.

The app is a must-have for trip planning and includes tools like Lightnging Lane Passes, My Day, and the Tip Board, all of which help you navigate the park and maximize your time. It’s best to download the app before your 60-day window, which is when dining reservations open. I recommend downloading it at least 90 days prior to your trip so you have plenty of time to familiarize yourself with the features.

Getting Started with My Disney Experience:

  1. Download the app (My Disney Experience or Disneyland).

  2. Open the app and scroll down to "Account," then click on "Profile."

  3. You’ll see two tabs: "My Profile" and "Friends & Family List." To add someone to your party, go to +Add a Guest. Depending on whether they already have a My Disney Experience account, the process may differ.

By following these steps and utilizing the app’s many features, you’ll be well-prepared for a smooth and magical Disney experience.

For children under 13, you will need to add them by choosing "I'll enter their name and age". Once you enter their details, the app will confirm that you manage their plans.

If your guest already has a My Disney Experience account, you can link them to your account by going to "Profile" and scrolling down to the bottom. Click "Show My Linking Code", then either use your camera to scan the QR code or manually type in their information.
