Space 220: Epcot - Future World
The newest and most galactically incredible restaurant will launch you 220 miles above the Earth to the Centauri Space Station, where guests can enjoy some delicious eats while taking in the panoramic view of space and earth through the station's viewports.
Space220 is located in World Discovery next to Mission Space. This restaurant have a fantastic atmosphere starting when you enter the lobby, you will be given a space ticket for your ride on the elevator that will launch you 220 miles above Epcot. Although for those scared of heights, it’s not really launching you anywhere but the second floor. The entire building is three stories. The cast member will escort your enter party into the capsule that will launch you into space with a viewing area in the center that you can watch as you head to the Centauri Space Station.
My kids are right on the edge of magic. My ten-year-old is starting to question things and my seven years are still deep into it. The two 7-year-olds kept asking if this was real or fake, and my 10-year-old was trying not to believe what he saw, but the simulator felt so real and the graphics showing us leaving Epcot made it easier to believe that some serious Disney Magic was taking place.
When we entered the hallway from the simulator to the restaurant, we are greeted by space vegetables rotating in space, another nod to Disney’s commitment to vertical and in-house farming. When you enter the restaurant, you are blown away by the size of the dining room and the views of space in the background. This two-story restaurant is an open space and makes you feel like you have stepped out of the busyness and crowds of Epcot. We were a group of 11 and through my dining alerts, I booked a table of 5 and 6 with 15 minutes of each other. They sat us across from each other. So, we allowed the kids to have the booth and took the table across from them. They loved sitting next to the window to watch the astronauts. Finally, my oldest son decided this was not real because the astronauts were waving and doing tricks instead of working. Ha-ha!
The food was delicious. This restaurant is run by The Patina Restaurant Group, which owns several restaurants around Disney. This is definitely way above theme park food, but it’s not a Michelin-star restaurant. Everything we got we really enjoyed. Additionally, the drinks were fun, festive, and lively. We really felt like we had stepped out of the theme parks and into a nice dinner with friends. All the different foods we ate are listed in the pictures below. You’ll see we had a variety of other foods. The kids were so hungry that we barely got a chance even to take photos of their food.
So how do you get this reservation for Space220? When it’s one of the most popular restaurants at Walt Disney World. As I said before, I had to set up multiple dining alerts because I did not get it at our 60-day window. And once I got two reservations within 30 minutes of each other, I canceled the rest so that other people could book. It took some finessing and booking several times, but I did get it. There is also a restaurant and a lounge. You are not guaranteed a table in the lounge, you could be sitting at the bar, but if Space220 is on your must do like and you are traveling with adults or older kids or teenagers, and you do not care if you were sitting at a bar versus a table then try to get a reservation for the lounge. There is also a walk-up line for this restaurant that you can sign up for at the theme park. I’m not sure how long the wait is if you get on the walk-up, but there is a third opportunity to get into space 220 evenings if you don’t win that reservation. My tip for booking at your 60 day window for onsite guest only is to book this towards the end of your trip. You are always more likely to get it further in your trip since you are able to book for 10 days.
Overall, this was a fun experience. It’s not an experience that we will go back to regularly too because it’s pricey, but we will do it every few years. I believe the next time I go back is on my adult-only trip. But we definitely rate this experience 10 out of 10 because the atmosphere is so relaxed. Plus, it’s a nice break from the parks.
